SW Type Special WheelTechnical Information
What is SW special wheel?
This unique ISB original, compact and durable Special Wheels are used beneath car turn tables as a guide, also under extreme loads and environments.
Head options: material, painting, quenching and redesigning available upon request.
For clean room applications please contact us.
How smooth is Special Wheel?
The chart on the right indicates the test data for reference. We tested “I” type Special Wheel on a surface of SS raw steel and hardened SK steel equivalent to HRC60, polished surface for comparison.
Friction Resistance = Rolling resistance ÷ Load
Why it has an oblique head?
The unique oblique rotating head distributes the load into thrust and axial directions.
This load distribution on independent bearings enables Special Wheels to withstand extreme loads regardless of its compact design.
Which way SW can be mounted?
The SW Series Special Wheels can be mounted either in inverted and not inverted positions.
When mounting under the turn tables as a guide wheel, turn all the SW head oblique side toward the center of the turn table.
What is the rotation speed?
Using a special wheel in an application, for example SW-130 or SW-150 the rotation speed of wheel head must not exceed 20 m/min.
when the size of SW is smaller or larger than above sizes the speed of wheel head must be specified in accordance with the number of rotations per travel.
For applications out of our experience or extreme loads not described in this catalog please consult us on the degree of uneven, wear and noise level.
Does the SW head wear?
Slip may occur between the wheel head and the rail when rotating, this will cause the wear of both rail and SW head also slip may generate metallic noise. To minimize the noise and wear, lubrication is effective.
The same effect can be gained by rounding the SW head and the rail crown due to the small contact points.
Note: To round the contact area of wheel head, consult us
What is the difference between the special Wheel with and without collar?
The specification of SW head for handling load with and without collar is the same.
The collar type wheel is used when there is a possibility of derailing, however the load on the collar has to be 1/10 of specified wheel load.
For shock-load applications please contact our sales.
Is it possible to change the material, dimension and etc?
Custom-made options are available upon request such as hardened-head to improve the wear, nylon head for decreasing the noise level, stainless steel for corrosion prevention, head collar angle customization, for extreme load applications and other requirements please contact our sales.
